Answer: D. Preliminary observational evidence suggests that infection with SARS-CoV-2 can cause stroke via hypercoagulability, endothelial dysfunction, and/or cardiogenic embolism. One study from a center in New York City reported an unusually high number of patients (five) younger than 50 years of age who presented over a two-week period with large-vessel ischemic stroke; tests for SARS-CoV-2 were positive in all five. Other reports also suggest that COVID-19 is associated with large-vessel ischemic stroke in young adults with few or no vascular risk factors.
